MECHANICAL TROUBLES HAMPER OWENS’ EFFORT IN MICHIGAN
(Two rear spark plugs failed causing Alli to race on six cylinders)
Brooklyn, Mich. (June 16, 2008) - The old adage ‘When it rains it pours’ rang true for Alli Owens in the Racing for Wildlife 200 ARCA RE/MAX Series race at Michigan International Speedway. The 200-mile race was postponed a day due to severe weather and Owens, driving the No. 12 ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet, faced a storm of her own while battling to a 24th place finish.
After qualifying 27th fastest, the Daytona Beach, Fla. native was confident she would move through the 41-car starting field and challenge for a top finish, but a mysterious engine gremlin hampered her efforts. Owens, with her trademark never give up attitude, soldiered on and made the best of a difficult situation.
“We aren’t sure what the problem was but something happened which caused us to lose power,” said Owens. “We’ve had problems in the past but this was unlike the others. It definitely made for a very frustrating day.”
Despite the setback, Owens continued to fight for every spot. The crew, led by veteran Mario Gosselin, prepared an excellent handling car but the lack of power issue was too much to overcome.
“Our season has been a roller coaster ride,” said Owens. “The team has put good cars underneath me but mechanical issues and unavoidable accidents have kept us from showing how strong we truly are. It’s disappointing because we know we are capable of much more.”
The next race for Owens and the ElectrifyingCareers.com team is the July 18 running of the Kentucky 150 at Kentucky Speedway. |
