ALLI OWENS EXPERIENCES
DISAPPOINTMENT IN NASHVILLE
Lebanon, Tenn.
(August 10, 2008) - Alli Owens expected big
results in her first visit to the Nashville
Superspeedway but her day ended in
disappointment on lap 75 after she was caught up
in a crash. The driver of the No. 12
ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet made a strong
showing, running as high as 10th, before the
incident relegated her to a 29th place finish.
“I was on the outside of another car,” explained
Owens. “He was on the apron and when he came
back up on the track, he got into me. It’s a
huge disappointment because we had such a strong
car.”
The Daytona
Beach, Fla. native started the 150-mile race
from the 20th starting spot. Three caution
periods in the first 13 laps made for a slow
start but once the field settled in, Owens began
her charge. For nearly 20 laps, she waged a
fierce battle with three other drivers.
The race was slowed by the fourth caution period
on lap 53. The break in the action allowed Owens
to bring the car in for its scheduled pit stop.
The crew, led by crew chief Mario Gosselin,
performed masterfully and gained two positions
in the exchange.
“The guys did a fantastic job in the pits,” said
Owens. “Each week, they make my job a bit easier
by gaining us spots in the pits.”
On the restart, Owens charged into the top 10
only to find that, with new tires and full of
fuel, the car did not handle as it had
previously. Knowing that as the fuel load burned
off, the handling would improve, Owens patiently
raced a comfortable pace. She found herself in
the 18th position when, entering turn three on
lap 69, contact from another car sent her
spinning into the outside barrier. The heavy
rear end damage made it impossible to continue.
“After the pit stop, the car wasn’t the same,”
said Owens. “I knew we were better on the long
run so I took my time, waiting for it to come
back to me. Unfortunately, I never got that
chance. It’s a tough way to end the race.”
The next race for Owens and the
ElectrifyingCareers.com team is the Chicagoland
ARCA 200 being held at Chicagoland Speedway on
September 6.
