ALLI OWENS FINISHES 27th
AT THE NEW JERSEY MOTORSPORTS PARK
Millville, NJ (September 29, 2008) - For the
past seven years, Alli Owens has been racing
exclusively on oval tracks but on Sunday, the
20-year-old had her first taste of road racing
in the Loud Energy Drink 150 ARCA RE/MAX Series
race at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Driving her
No. 12 ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet, with
additional support from IBEW Local 351 and
Southern New Jersey NECA, she finished
respectably in 27th.
Owens took a
few laps to find her way around the 2.3 mile
circuit but once she found her comfort zone, she
began to move through the field. The Daytona
Beach, Fla. native worked her way into the 12th
position when on lap 32, contact from another
car in esses sent her off the track. Owens tried
feverishly to restart her car but was initially
unable. Once it restarted, she returned to the
action three laps behind the leaders.
“I got hit by
another car and I was riding on the edge of the
track,” said Owens. “I
thought I had it saved but once I got in the
dirt, it looped around and stalled. It was
frustrating because I was heading toward a very
good finish.”
Rain began to
fall a short time later and the race was cut
short on lap 48.
“Road racing is
something very new to me,” said Owens. “I went
into this race with the goal of finishing. I
thought I might get a pretty good finish out of
it, but I can’t be too upset since this was my
first time. The next time I road race, I know it
will be a little easier.”
The next race
for Owens and the ElectrifyingCareers.com team
is the October 3 running of the ARCA RE/MAX 250
at Talladega Superspeedway. |
