THE ‘BIG ONE’ ENDS OWENS’
DAY EARLY AT TALLADEGA
Talladega, AL (October 4, 2008) - When racing on
a superspeedway, every driver’s biggest fear is
getting caught up in the ‘big one’ - a multi-car
crash which eliminates them from the race. In
the ARCA RE/MAX 250 at Talladega Superspeedway,
Alli Owens’ fear became reality.
The 20-year-old driver qualified
her No. 12 ElectrifyingCareers.com Chevrolet
18th fastest and was looking forward to a full
day of racing on the 2.66 mile track. But when
another driver suffered a cut tire on lap 11, an
11 car incident ensued and left Owens with a
destroyed race car. She finished 41st.
“I barely broke
a sweat today,” said Owens. “My race was over
that quick. I saw the wreck in front of me and
thought I was through it when a spinning car hit
me. There was nothing I could do. It’s a huge
let down for me, the team and especially the
IBEW Fifth District which came on-board as my
sponsor for this race.”
Owens’ next race is the season ending ARCA
RE/MAX Series race in Toledo, OH. It is being
held on October 12 at Toledo Speedway. |
